On October 4, 2024, a meeting of the country’s economic bloc, headed by Kholiqzoda Hokim Hikmatullo, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, was held with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Matthew Gartner. The meeting discussed the first stage of implementation of the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI).
Kholiqzoda Hokim Hikmatullo thanked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its cooperation in strengthening economic policy and supporting the implementation of the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) in the Republic of Tajikistan. He noted that an understanding had been reached with the IMF delegation regarding the implementation of quantitative goals under the PCI, as evidenced by the quantitative indicators and reform goals set for initial consideration. In particular, despite high levels of global political and economic uncertainty, successive reforms have ensured that Tajikistan's economic indicators remain favorable throughout 2024. Monetary policy has demonstrated its effectiveness in keeping inflation below the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) target, the budget deficit is maintained below the program target, and the Republic of Tajikistan will continue to take necessary measures to strengthen and stabilize the economy within the framework of the PCI.
In turn, Matthew Gartner, Head of the International Monetary Fund delegation, noted the positive trend in indicators for the Republic of Tajikistan. He stated that as part of the instrument implementation, the IMF delegation holds meetings with all ministries and departments included in the instrument, and proposed comments will be considered in subsequent rounds of negotiations.
First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kholiqzoda Hokim Hikmatullo, noted that the Tajik side is ready for constructive dialogue on any issues related to the implementation of the PCI and considers the recommendations and opinions of IMF team experts important in this process.
“We are confident that the implementation of this instrument will help stimulate additional financing for priority social and infrastructure projects to promote sustainable and inclusive development," said H. Kholiqzoda.
At the end, the parties expressed their readiness to further expand cooperation in this direction.
