On June 18, 2026, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Ikromi held a meeting with the delegation of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) led by the Deputy Secretary General, Abdullah Harun.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the development of the Islamic financial system, improving its regulatory framework, strengthening bilateral cooperation in the area of regulation and supervision of insurance services, in particular, the study and implementation of Islamic insurance (takaful).
In the course of the talks, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Ikromi emphasized that strengthening cooperation with influential international institutions is of particular importance, given the rapid development of the global financial system and the expansion of Islamic banking. He noted that studying best practices provides a favorable basis for strengthening the regulation and supervision of Islamic finance in the Republic of Tajikistan.
It was noted that such experience had a positive impact on the wider coverage of the population with formal financial services and would contribute to improving the infrastructure of the country's financial system, reducing the shadow economy and attracting the largest volume of foreign investment.
“The National Bank of Tajikistan has been a member of the Board since 2010 and continues to cooperate actively with it. Since 2014, a favorable framework for the development of Islamic banking has been created in the Republic of Tajikistan, and today, one of the pressing issues requiring resolution is the development of Islamic insurance. Therefore, the formation, regulation, and supervision of Islamic insurance organizations in the country are considered important components that contribute to the reduction of financial and commercial risks in sectors of the national economy and ensure the stability of the financial market,” noted S. Ikromi.
Abdullo Harun, Deputy Secretary General of the Islamic Financial Services Board, positively assessed the development of the country's insurance system and expressed the institution's willingness to continue mutually beneficial cooperation and implement joint projects to develop the Islamic financial system in the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere and in a spirit of mutual understanding.
