On May 29, 2026, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Ikromi Sirojiddin Salom participated in the Meeting of Finance Ministers and Central (national) Bank Chairmen of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries, which was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The issues related to strengthening financial cooperation within the SCO, development of new cooperation mechanisms dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Organization's establishment, current issues in the international financial system, digitalization of public finances, monetary policy and measures to ensure financial stability, as well as the consultation process for the establishment of the SCO Development Bank were discussed in the meeting.
During the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Ikromi has briefed about the current situation of the country's economy and financial system, the results of monetary policy implementation and measures taken to maintain a stable inflation rate, ensure financial stability, and strengthen the sustainability of the banking system.
It was noted that the National Bank of Tajikistan continues to implement consistent reforms to improve the banking supervision system, implement modern macroprudential policy instruments, develop payment infrastructure, and expand digital financial services. The importance of expanding settlements in national currencies, aligning national payment systems, developing cross-border payments, and strengthening cooperation between the central banks of SCO member countries were also emphasized in the meeting.
In course of discussions, participants also have addressed the development of financial technologies, innovative tools application in the financial sector, exchange of experience in central bank digital currencies, and strengthening cybersecurity.
Meeting participants have expressed their willingness to continue mutually beneficial cooperation to strengthen financial stability, develop economic and investment ties, and promote joint initiatives within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Sirojiddin Ikromi also met with Azat Aibekovich Kozubekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the meeting, the parties have exchanged views on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between the central banks of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, monetary policy, financial stability, payment infrastructure development, digitalization of financial services, compliance, and expanding the exchange of experience. They have expressed their readiness to continue constructive cooperation and strengthen professional ties between the two institutions.
It is worth noting that the current SCO meeting took place in the year of the 25th anniversary of the Organization's founding, creating a favorable basis for discussing current economic and financial issues among member states.
