On September 17, 2025, the Chairman of National Bank of Tajikistan held a meeting with representatives of the World Bank at the National Bank of Tajikistan. The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce the new Head of the World Bank Finance Group in Europe and Central Asia, Ms. Tatiana Didier. She replaces Mr.Pietro Calice, who previously worked in this position.
During the meeting, the parties have exchanged views on the progress of the Strengthening the Financial Sector in Tajikistan project, the GFPP grant program for project development, the Startup Ecosystems for Economic Development (SEED), and the provision of grants under the GFPP for the transition to a digital economy. They also have discussed a number of other issues, including green economy financing, digital financial services, climate change risks, financial consumer protection, the implementation of the Financial Inclusion Strategy, maintaining macroeconomic stability, increasing the volume of non-cash payments, ensuring the sustainability of the payment system, and developing the securities market.
The Chairman of National Bank of Tajikistan has expressed gratitude to the World Bank delegation for its continued support of projects aimed at strengthening the economic and social sectors of the Republic of Tajikistan and pledged to support the constructive initiatives of this influential global institutions to ensure economic development and expand the country's banking system.
During the meeting, Ms.Tatiana Didier has introduced the World Bank delegation and expressed gratitude to the management of the National Bank of Tajikistan for their fruitful cooperation and warm welcome. The parties have discussed issues related to the results of the second phase of the World Bank's "Strengthening the Financial Sector in Tajikistan" technical assistance program, the program's focus areas for the second phase, the microfinance regulatory framework, stress testing, the lending market, sustainable financing, climate change risk assessment, and other topics.
Ms. Tatiana Didier has expressed satisfaction with the results achieved by Tajikistan's financial sector, particularly the banking system, and stated the World Bank's willingness for fruitful cooperation and holding separate meetings with the National Bank of Tajikistan's structural subdivisions to effectively implement ongoing projects and the grant program.
