Presentation of investment opportunities in Tajikistan's banking and insurance system at a Forum in Malaysia


A delegation from the Republic of Tajikistan, led by Sherali Kabir, Minister of Industry and New Technologies, participated in the Tajikistan-Malaysia Investment and Trade Forum on November 18. The delegation included Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee for Investment and State Property Management, Firuz Sharifzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan. They presented a report highlighting the importance of bilateral relations between the countries, Tajikistan's hydropower potential, renewable energy sector, industry, metallurgy, and investment opportunities in the country's banking and insurance system.

In particular, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Sharifzoda F.H., delivered a detailed presentation on investment opportunities within the financial sector, the structure of the banking system in Tajikistan, assets, liabilities, and net capital of financial credit institutions and insurance organizations. He also discussed the share of foreign capital in these institutions, the current status of correspondent banking relationships, the profitability of the banking and insurance sectors, and answered specific questions from entrepreneurs and investors.

On the sidelines of the forum, meetings were held with leaders of major Malaysian companies to explore and discuss prospects for economic cooperation.

Furthermore, during meetings between the Tajik delegation and Malaysia's Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Amir Hamza Azizan, as well as with the management of Malayan Banking Berhad "Maybank" and Islamic Bank "Maybank", the parties focused on cooperation in the financial sector and investment in Tajikistan's economy. Discussions included the potential establishment of a bank or branch of Malaysian banks in Tajikistan, the opening of mutual correspondent accounts in financial credit institutions of both countries, and the development of mortgage loans in Tajikistan. They also exchanged views on sustainable economic development, equitable distribution of resources, and investment protection. Representatives from large Malaysian funds – KWSP, PNB, Khazanah, and Tabung Haji – also participated in these negotiations.
