On November 12-13 of this year, a regional conference on “Financing Disaster Risks and Insurance in Central Asia” was held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan. The conference was attended by representatives from government agencies, ministries of finance and credit management, financial system regulators (including central banks and insurance supervisors), local insurance companies, regional and global reinsurance companies, researchers, experts in the disaster risk financing sector, and international organizations involved in disaster risk financing in the region.
At this event, the Republic of Tajikistan was represented by Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Sirodjiddin Ikromi, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan, Khairullozoda Shamsullo and other officials from relevant departments.
The World Bank's report on sustainable public financing of natural disaster risks, prevention, and risk management in Central Asia was presented at the conference. Participants exchanged views on the role of the state in disaster insurance, state cooperation with the private sector, and innovative processes for financing natural disaster risks, including through the introduction of insurance mechanisms.
The purpose of the conference was to bring together stakeholders, public authorities, and the private sector to make informed decisions aimed at increasing financial resilience to the growing risks of natural disasters in Central Asian countries.
It is worth noting that topical issues of the industry were raised at this conference, and useful materials and information were presented for studying best practices and innovative approaches in the field of disaster risk financing and insurance, as well as the process of disaster recovery in the region. The exchange of these best practices can contribute to the sustainable development of the country's insurance industry.
